The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), through its Social Science Ethics Review Board (SSERB), offers this training workshop to help researchers understand and apply existing ethics standards and codes in social science research and other research involving human participants (e.g., educational research, business research). Generally, the training workshop is aimed at developing in the participants a full appreciation of the ethics principles in social science research to enable them to apply these in research planning, design, implementation, and publication.

At the end of the training workshop, participants are expected to:

  • Expound on the ethical principles that guide social science research;
  • Identify ethical issues in different phases of a research project;
  • Know how to get informed consent and maintain confidentiality and anonymity at different stages of the research process; 
  • Identify ways of maintaining research integrity throughout all the phases of human-participant research;
  • Learn how to design research for beneficence, social justice, and inclusivity; and
  • Apply ethical principles and standards in the review and conduct of research.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This training workshop is designed for researchers, faculty members and graduate students who conduct social science research involving human participants. This is also designed for new or prospective members of ethics review boards or committees.

The two-day course will be delivered on-site and synchronously. However, participants are required to finish a self-paced basic module on research ethics before the training workshop. The self-paced module employs lectures, discussions, open fora, and interactive exercises. This will be sent on 19 April 2026.

The course will be held for two days from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (16 training hours).

Registration is open until 18 April 2026 or until all slots are filled. Early registration is highly encouraged as the training cohort will consist of 35 participants only.

Yes. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion after accomplishing the evaluation form.

  • The PSSC reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training program in case the minimum number of participants is not met or for other reasons beyond the control of the PSSC, such as typhoons, calamities, or other force majeure events. In such cases, payment made shall be returned to the participants in full.
  • Participants who cancel before the seven-day period prior to the start of the course will not be charged any cancellation fee. Payments already made shall be refunded in full.
  • Participants who cancel within the seven-day period before the start of the course shall be refunded 50% of the training fee already paid.
  • No-show participants or those who cancel on the day itself shall not get a refund of their training fee.
  • Substitution of participants is allowed up to one day before the start of the course.
